Atheme Services 7.2.9 for Synology NAS and Router

Hot on the heels of the Charybdis IRC Server package for the Synology NAS and router, I’m releasing the Atheme Services package as a companion package for Charybdis.

IRC Services are an add-on designed to work with together with IRC on a server level. IRC Services generally are a bunch of extra functionality that is not available by default in the IRC Server itself, such as nickname and channel registration.

Both my Charybdis and Atheme packages are designed to work together out of the box. When correctly installed, they will link together after installation without the need of doing any additional command-line configuration.

Start with installing the Charybdis package first before moving on to the Atheme installation. To install this package, you’ll need to enter the same server settings configuration in the wizard as in the Charybdis package.

Charybdis 3.5.3 for Synology NAS and Router

This is the first release of Charybdis for Synology SRM and DSM. Charybdis is an IRC Server. For those of you unfamiliar with IRC, it’s a client/server chat protocol that allows to link multiple servers together to form a chat network. You’ll need an IRC client to connect to it, like mIRC or XChat.

This package is an early release, so it may still have some quirks. If you find any, let me know, so I might fix them in a future release of the package.

This is a quick walk trough as to how to set up Charybdis. The basic configuration is done via the setup wizard. In this example the FQDN of the server is ircd.domain.net. The server will work without this being a real domain name, but of course you won’t be able to use it to connect to the server if it isn’t.

Server Settings

Network Name: The name of your IRC network : IRCNet

Server Name: This is the name of your host on the domain e.g. : ircd

Domain Suffix: the domain suffix for the network e.g. domain.net

Operator Settings

Network Administrator: the name of the netadmin for the server/network : you will have to use this name to “oper up”. This name will also be visible in the server motd.

Password: The password you’ll need to “oper up”
